Dr Johnny Ryan spoke at the European Parliament’s cross-party Democratic Tech Alliance on 24 September 2025. He set out the strategic issues facing Europe, and a way forward. Europe has failed to enforce the GDPR. It should do so for a competitive Europe, a secure Europe, a Europe whose children are not prey to horrors online. Rather than undermine the GDPR in its proposed „Omnibus“, he recommended that the European Commission intelligently apply the GDPR as a tool for European competitiveness, security, and child protection.
